Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, had an interesting and informative article in the Wall Street Journal about Independent voters and where they stand. From Who Are the Independents, and What Are They Thinking?:

At this point, independents are significantly closer to Republicans than they are to Democrats on a host of questions involving their views of President Barack Obama, the political parties and issues. This is a reversal of the situation in 2006 and 2008.

Unless the Democrats can move independents’ views closer to their own, they are likely to face the same fate Republicans met in the last two elections.

Brown is basing this on a Quinnipiac national poll of 2,181 voters that was released last week.

This shift by Independents to the right is not surprising to me. By it’s very nature based on its founding, America is a fundamentally conservative country. Many people got snookered by “hopey changey” and the desire to elect a person of color to the presidency and the MSM was complicit in keeping the lid on Obama’s radical past. Unless people were reading conservative blogs, they didn’t know about any of this. Now that people have been able to see Obama and his administration in action, they are witnessing his agenda of transforming our country into a European style socialist democracy. Independents are taking notice of this direction Obama is leading our country away from its founding principles and are waking up with a case of buyers remorse.

I also believe that the Tea Party Movement has been instrumental in sounding the alarm to the American people of Obama’s socialist agenda. We had to speak out because the MSM is almost fully behind Obama and acting like TASS back in the days of the Soviet Union. We hit the streets, regular working class folks, and people saw us and listened to us and our message of smaller government, lower taxes, adherence to the Constitution and individual liberty resonates with most Americans. The radicals and socialists are well organized and loud but we outnumber them by a wide margin. The Independents are seeing socialism in action in the White House and they are rejecting it.

There was a good article on townhall.com by Brian Walsh about Dan Maffei and Ann Marie Buerkle and the NY 25th Congressional race:

Excerpt from: 2010 Race of the Day: Democrats’ Maffei Problem

Highlighting the growing concern over Maffei’s left-wing voting record and Republican candidate Ann Marie Buerkle’s broad appeal, Buerkle was endorsed by the Independence Party this week, strengthening her bid to take this seat in November. Her campaign theme is “Jobs are Job Number One” and it has resonated loud and clear among central New Yorkers. Having united Independents and Republicans of all stripes, Buerkle faces no primary and will be the only candidate on the ballot in November under the Republican line, the Conservative line, and the Independence line.

Incumbent Rep. Maffei has voted with Nancy Pelosi 96.5% of the time over the past two years, which has made his constituents, and most notably independents in the 25th District, tired of the same old Washington politics. A former aide to the corrupt Congressman Charlie Rangel, Maffei has only voted against his party’s agenda a handful of times. He voted for the stimulus, healthcare reform, and now the costly financial overhaul bill, supporting the current Administration’s out-of-control spending and disregard for America’s future. In the past two years, all Maffei has proven is that he’s just another unimpressive Pelosi puppet, one who holds his party’s agenda above his constituents’ interests.

Incumbent Rep. Maffei has voted with Nancy Pelosi 96.5% of the time over the past two years

A former aide to the corrupt Congressman Charlie Rangel

If I had input into Ann Marie Buerkle’s campaign, I’d be running with the above factoids, both Ann Marie herself bringing them up while on the campaign trail and also in ads. The ratings for Pelosi’s Congress are at 21.8% according to the RealClearPolitics Poll Average. That’s even lower than W’s ratings at the end of his presidency. Rangel’s corruption case is front and center now and as a former aide, how could Maffei not have known what a crook Rangel is! Heck, Rangel helped Maffei get elected.

Shout Maffei’s voting record and ties to Charlie Rangel from the roof tops, Ann Marie!

Here’s a video of Ann Marie at the 2010 Tax Day Rochester Tea Party

As one of the organizers of the Rochester Tea Party Movement, I can assure you that we do not tolerate or advocate violence or racism. We held three Tea Parties last summer (2009) and they were uplifting, patriotic events that were spirited, but were non-violent and there was no racism.

The Rochester Tea Party Movement organizers, which include We Surround Rochester, Campaign for Liberty, Young Americans for Liberty and the RochesterConservative.com blogs, are committed to peace and the political process and we do not tolerate or advocate violence or racism.

In four Tea Parties over the course of two years, there’s been no racism displayed at the Rochester Tea Parties. We do not tolerate it.

The NAACP’s resolution against the Tea Party Movement concerning alleged racism is unfounded and bogus.

Patriots For America

This thrust of this piece is not for the patriot, the American that is vigilant of government, the individual that is actively working to restore our constitutional republic, or the man or woman that clearly views a threat to American freedom and liberty in our nation today.

Then who should learn about this rant? Every American that each of us can contact through our email lists, blogs, letters to editors, organizations we belong, candidate forums, et al., with the warning that America’s future is precarious if “we the people” ignore our responsibility and right to vote November 2, 2010 or make wrong choices.

There can be no doubt all America is aware, but may not comprehend, the bizarre and potentially fatal method the Obama Administration and Congress is governing America .

From ruling by czars, radicals in government, to fiscal insanity involving bail-outs, bank takeovers, fascist automobile industry interference, to socializing healthcare, encouraging immorality, demonizing America abroad, 2nd Amendment threats, ignoring sovereignty issues, suing a State Governor for taking measures to protect her citizens, condoning voter intimidation, encouraging racial confrontation in America, attempting to degrade the United States military, putting two wars on the back burner, to name a few serious issues. When viewed together, a destructive path emerges for America , if not peacefully reversed quickly.

If….the millions of Americans who are not registered to vote do not get registered; the millions who are registered and rarely vote, fail to vote in November; those that have been complacent with the attitude “let someone else do it” , fail to get energized to vote; those that excuse their duty to vote with a “my vote won’t count” and fail to seriously evaluate the threat to America and come to realize how critical every vote is; and if “we the people” do not ensure a free ballot box, the result will be America reflecting an attitude of surrender.

Our prayer must be that a free people will still have a choice and the courage in November 2010 to make right decisions. To reverse the threat to America we must select conservative, constitutional committed, Founding Father visioned, morally courageous candidates, with unwavering support for principles embedded in our Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, and Bill of Rights.

Failure of Americans of every color, race, ethnic background, political persuasion, gender, religion, to peacefully vote for right principles November 2, 2010 will signal continuation to those of the Marxist/socialist/communist ideology who are presently destroying over 200 years of freedom and liberty in America .

If the above failure occurs, I believe it will generate a massive, painful, bloody revolt in America . The overwhelming majority of Americans understand and abhor the thought of conflict in our beautiful land…but blood will flow before surrender to a dictator or socialist, communist regime. God help us keep our knees bent to Him, not a dictator.

Black Tea Party participants were quick to respond in condemnation of the NAACP’s bogus resolution of racism. From Andy Barr of Politico.com:

Some African-American tea party candidates are displeased by a resolution that the NAACP approved on Tuesday calling the grass-roots conservative movement “racist.”

“I have not experienced the charges of racism that the NAACP is touting,” Vernon Parker, an African-American tea party congressional candidate in Arizona, told POLITICO.

Parker, former mayor of Paradise Valley, said that he has never felt out of place at a tea party rally because of the color of his skin.

“When I go to tea party events, people don’t look at me any differently,” he said. “They didn’t judge me on the color of my skin, quite frankly, they judged me on my principles.”

“The NAACP should be concerned about bringing jobs to people in depressed areas,” he added, “not the tea party.”

Tim Scott, a GOP congressional nominee in South Carolina, echoed Parker’s sentiments in a statement.

“I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference,” Scott said.

“As I campaign in South Carolina, I participate in numerous events sponsored by the tea party, 9/12, Patriot, and other like-minded groups, and I have had the opportunity to get to know many of the men and women who make up these energetic grass-roots organizations,” Scott added.

Deneen Borelli who is an occasional guest author here on rochesterconservative.com had this to say. From BigGovernment.com:

I condemn the NAACP. Instead of criticizing tea parties, the NAACP would be better served denouncing the racist comments made by a member of the New Black Panther Party and its voter intimidation outside a Philadelphia polling place in the last presidential election. As a frequent speaker at tea party rallies around the country, I can assure the NAACP that the tea party movement’s concerns are about President Obama’s policies and not his race.

I’m deeply concerned that the NAACP is being used as a political tool to do the dirty work of the progressive movement. I urge blacks concerned about the tea parties to read the Contract from America — a list of policy objectives for Congress that was developed by tea party members nationwide. These objectives are clearly about limited government and liberty. In fact, the NAACP should be very concerned Obama’s cap-and-trade energy policy will lead to higher energy prices and higher unemployment – particularly among poor and minority households.

I agree with Deneen, that the NAACP is being used as a political tool by the progressives and that Obama’s cap and tax policy will hurt everyone in this country, particularly the black community.

I do believe that this campaign against the Tea Party Movement is being orchestrated from the top and blessed by the Democratic Party. Remember in November and vote the race baiters out!

The Heritage Foundation is reporting that peoples dependence on the government has jumped. This from Waterbury Republican-American:

The Heritage Foundation has released its annual estimate of how much people in the United States have come to rely on government. In 2009, the index rose from 239 to 272, an increase of 13.6 percent. It was the largest percentage gain since 1975, and the largest increase in index value on record.

Heritage looks at five aspects of people’s lives — housing; health and welfare; retirement; education; and rural and agricultural services — to derive its Index of Dependence. The calculation uses 1980 as a base year, when the index equaled 100, and interpolates to 1962 when the index stood at about 19.

It’s really no surprise hearing of this. We have a President that believes “when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody” a super majority Democratic Congress that believes in the same thing and a sycophant MSM that acts as his propaganda arm.

The editorial from the Waterbury Republican-American goes on to say:

Last year’s rapid rise calls to mind the story of what caused New Haven native Al Capp, famed as the creator of the Lil’ Abner comic strip, to revise his political outlook late in the 1960s.

Until then, Capp was a liberal icon, routinely applauded and honored by the liberal establishment. He lived in Metro Boston and said that one day, a “Liberal Lady” came to him with some photographs she had taken.

She said she could get them published if he would write captions for them. He agreed, and they worked together amiably until she showed him what she described as the most poignant of the batch, a photo that she said would break his heart. As Capp remembered years later:

“It was mid-afternoon, the sun was shining. Garbage cans were tipped on the sidewalk. Bottles lined the gutters. On a porch sprawled a half-dozen teenagers, drinking and smoking. The caption, I said, should be ‘Get up off your (butts) and clean up your street!’”

Capp said the Liberal Lady was outraged. She stormed out, and “I guess that was when I began leaving what liberalism had become. … What began to bother me, privately, was that, as things grew better, the empire of the needy seemed to grow larger. Somehow they became entitled to government gifts other people couldn’t get, such as people who worked.”

Bingo!

It’s my hope that more people are waking up, as Al Capp did and recognize the folly that the liberal “progressives” (aka socialists) are foisting on our country. It’s been a full court press for the last 50 years and its origins go back to FDR’s New Deal. We can’t keep going down this path and need to cut government spending because it’s unsustainable:

Heritage further notes the International Monetary Fund “predicts financial devastation for the U.S. by 2015 unless drastic cuts are made in the deficit immediately. …. An impending tipping point for the structure of American government and civil society is tangible.”

Remember in November and vote for fiscal and political conservatives who will cut government spending and pare down the size of government to its Constitutional limits!

Vets for Freedom PAC members–

If you’re like me, you’re deeply concerned about the future of our country. Washington deal-making and “me-first” politicians have jeopardized American power, both on the battlefield and here at home.

Now is our time to fight. We know our mission. This is our moment. And we’ve found our warriors.

All 10 are Iraq and/or Afghanistan veterans. All 10 have proven to be strong, viable candidates. All 10 are challengers in competitive House races. And, most importantly, all 10 believe in victory on the battlefield. Now, our job is to make sure that all 10 win in November!

PLEASE DONATE and help VFF-PAC send them to Washington!

But we can’t do it alone. We need your help. Entrenched Washington interests are stacked up to beat these veterans, and we need fire back with everything we’ve got. Meet all 10 candidates and read their unassailable records of service on the battlefield. The media is already taking note, as POLITICO ran an article this morning on our effort.

In the coming weeks, VFF-PAC will send out more information about ‘OPERATION 10-in-10′ and will let you know how you can help. But today, we need ammunition for the fight. Help VFF-PAC–the largest and most influential Iraq and Afghanistan veterans organization in America–send warriors to Washington!

Move Out and Draw Fire!
