I know I’m a late in posting this week’s edition of RC Friday Night Blues, however; I’ve been on vacation doing vacation things. Yesterday, I took my sons and nephew fishing in the morning until the early afternoon. My wife and I then went to the Big Rib Bar-B-Que and Blues Fest that’s being held at the Highland Park Festival Site. What a wonderful time we had, there’s nothing like listening to live blues and sampling ribs from the competition between the various professional Bar-B-Que masters! My choice for best ribs (drum roll please!), Willingham’s from Memphis, TN. Their dry rub, although a bit on the salty side, was to my palate, the best ribs of the Fest. My wife on the other hand, thought that Texas Pit Bar-B-Que was the best. You can vote for your choice for whose ribs you like the best, and my wife and I voted accrodingly. I recommend that you visit the Big Rib Bar-B-Que and Blues Fest, you will have a blast and the food and smells are most excellent.
One of the bands that played at the Fest was Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm, drums and guitar. Hailing from Mississippi, they have been dubbed the Two Man Wrecking Crew. It’s hard to believe how much sound two guys could produce, hence their nickname! Cedric Burnside is grandson of the legendary R.L. Burnside, son of drummer great Calvin Jackson, is widely regarded as one of the best drummers in the world. Lightnin’ Malcolm sounds like he’s playing both the bass and lead guitars at times. My wife and I were so impressed by them that I just had to feature them this week for RC Friday Night Blues.
