TO ALL OF CHARLIE'S WONDERFUL FAMILY AT RC...

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind and thoughtful words and support. Charlie was one of a kind, and I will cherish his memory forever. He loved and respected each of you with true devotion. I know that you will all carry on his passion for justice and love of his country. He's a true Super-Hero in a world where there are few. My deepest and sincere thanks to each of you for having such a tremendous impact on my Charlie's life. Love to you all. -Donna

Having read Charlie's writings and messages, going back 10+ years, I'll say the man was consistent, which is a value sorely lacking these days. Always on track, always on message, and unwavering. There was a gap of about 4 years or so where I didn't get to see much of his stuff, due to various reasons, and I'd wondered during that time how Charlie was doing.

His messages on the Upstate newsgroup on Usenet 10 years ago were hardly any different from those he wrote recently, with regards to topic, subject therein, and his candid and common sense approach to the problems of the day.

Looking back to what he wrote 10+ years ago, I'd have to say the man was a prophet. Back then, NY had had a budget surplus the previous year which the state pissed away, rather than paying down debt, etc. H. Carl McCall was state comptroller, Pataki was governor, and the state treasury was awash with cash from Wall St.

What a difference 10 years makes. The issues are the same, only 10x worse. I cut my teeth on the issues of the day, so to speak, on the Upstate newsgroup, and Charlie was always there to lend his $.02, which was worth a lot more than my $.02. At the time I knew there was trouble on the horizon, but couldn't put my finger on it being a typical 20-something American with nary a clue about politics and how the government's world goes 'round. Charlie always gave insight into specific subjects which made things easier for a neophyte such as myself. His advocacy for Upstate, NY, I took to heart, as it jived with my general leanings at the time and my love for that region of the country.

The Oracle of Rochester was both loved and made fun of on that group, yet when things got out of hand and we all left for better forums, I'd go back and read posts from time to time, and some posts indicated people missed Charlie.

Some even mentioned they'd been wrong, and Charlie Eames was right.

RIP Charlie.

Though we'd never see eye to eye on politics, you were a good man and a gentle old soul.

You will be sorely missed.
