John Murtha died unexpectedly yesterday. Murtha’s legacy was that of serving as congressman of the highly gerrymandered Pennsylvania’s 12th district for almost 40 years. He also leaves this behind:

However, any successful advocacy over any number of years on behalf of the military was completely frittered away when Murtha savagely started to character assassinate US Marines still on the battlefield in Iraq for having allegedly committed war crimes against the Iraqi people. If you launch such a ruinous charge against US Marines who are fighting for your life and liberty in a foreign country—thereby putting them in increased danger—you lose any prior status as a so-called “defender” of the military. To continue calling Murtha an “advocate” of the military, even posthumously, is hypocrisy at best and all-out fraud at worst. The incident in question was the so-called Haditha incident in 2005, yet before an official military investigation was even completed—meaning no one knew any facts—Murtha went on to the media and accused the US Marines in that incident, saying, “…they [Marines] killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” Needless to say, this also inflamed the population of Iraqis already suspicious of the US presence!
Every single Marine, except for one, that John Murtha accused of being “cold blooded killers” in the Haditha incident was exonerated. Murtha is going to his grave having never apologized to them.

SSGT Wuterich’s trial has been postponed. It’s 2010 and the guy has yet to be exonerated.
Murtha completely destroyed any credibility some may say he had, before he went after these Marines. I think the guy went off the rails a long time ago, and certainly the evidence bears this out. He enjoyed bringing home the bacon to a backwater congressional district. Murtha had garnered more pork for that district, per capita, than arguably any other rep in Congress.

We’re both vets, howardroarke, and Murtha pissed me off going moonbat like he did! I think he was starting to lose it, I really do. He went out of his way to hang with Medea Benjamin and Code Pink and threw the “Haditha” Marines on the pyre.
As with Hanoi Jane’s actions, John Murtha’s memory in the Veteran community will not be fond:

Hell has a NEW resident… Murtha and Teddy Kennedy are likely holding hands and trying to figure out where they went wrong… Too bad..
