Repost: SOME SAY MOVE!

Here’s another one of Charlie’s posts, one that demonstrated his commitment to staying in Upstate New York and making it a better place to live. RV

In all my writings trying to improve conditions in Upstate New York I often get comments of, “If you don’t like it just leave!”

From the song “Monster” by Steppenwolf:

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope

The early settlers of America took great risk, sailing into the unknown to find a new homeland. They traveled thousands of sea miles in small wooden ships. They arrived in a wild, unsettled land to build a new life for themselves. Unfortunately this wasn’t good enough. Just as nature’s predators follow the migratory herds, evil, corruption, tyranny and oppression followed them to the new shores. Eventually the entire East Coast had been settled and the settler’s influence had spread several hundred miles inland.

From the movie “Billy Jack”:

Jean: We’ll go someplace else, someplace were it doesn’t have to be like this.

Billy Jack: Oh, really? Tell me, where is that place? Where is it? In what remote corner of this country-no-entire goddamn planet is there a place were men really care about one another and really love each other? Now, you tell me where such a place is, and I promise you that I’ll never hurt another human being as long as I live.

[shouts]
Billy Jack: Just one place!

Once again, they were repressed, denied their basic rights, and taxed without proper representation. It was clear that they could not run from evil. If they moved how long would the good life last? Eventually it all breaks down unless the people are willing to stand for their rights. It was pointless to pack up, move, and start over.

Our Founding Fathers had no real army, no Navy, and no real currency. Yet they declared war against one of the most powerful countries in the world.

And though the past has it’s share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it’s protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it’s a monster and will not obey

The spirit was freedom and justice
And it’s keepers seem generous and kind
It’s leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won’t pay it no mind

‘Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it’s all just an echo of what they’ve been told

Yeah, there’s a monster on the loose
It’s got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin’

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin’ the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can’t understand

America where are you now?
Don’t you care about your sons and daughters?
Don’t you know we need you now
We can’t fight alone against the monster

In every situation there are three categories of people.

There are those who choose to remain ignorant. They are getting robbed by those in power but take no interest in making their lives better. They won’t even make the effort to figure out how or why it is happening!

There is another group that may see what’s happening but are either too scared, lazy, or apathetic to make any effort in defending their property or their rights.

Then there is the third group. These are the people that know there are some things in life worth standing for.

To the other groups, if you have nothing in your life that you feel are worth standing up for, I pity you!

There is no big secret as to why other states have lower taxes and more freedoms than NY. It is because the people insist on it and stand for their way of life. Go to a state like Tennessee or Texas and tell them you will take away their rights like Albany does to NY. Tell the that you are going to increase their taxes to the levels of those in NY as Sheldon Silver has done to us. When you see and feel their reactions then you’ll understand why people are moving to those states from NY. At that point you should learn two things: There is a reason those states have a better life than NY. There is no reason NY can’t!
